Some houses were built to last two hundred years and have managed a hundred and eighty of them. Stone walls a metre thick. Chestnut beams cut from trees that no longer exist at that size. Granite lintels, azulejo, lime plaster that breathes.
You cannot buy these materials new. You can only fail to lose them.Old Edition is our heritage work — properties where the original fabric is worth more than anything we could put in its place. The approach is different here. Slower, more expensive per square metre, and more conservative: we repair before we replace, we match materials rather than approximate them, and we work with trades who know lime mortar from cement.
